Actor Andrew Garfield and comedian and presenter Amelia Dimoldenberg have sparked dating rumors after Garfield appeared on Dimoldenberg’s Chicken Shop Date. Clips of the web series, where Dimoldenberg interviews celebrities in fried chicken restaurants, have gone viral as fans speculate over the pair’s obvious chemistry.
Garfield, whose relationship with Dr. Kate Thomas ended a few months ago, flirted heavily with Dimoldenberg in the episode of the web series released on October 18. And Dimoldenberg certainly set the tone, when she jokingly told the actor, “Don’t, like, bring out a ring or get down on one knee, I’m not in the mood—today” early on in the episode. It’s a familiar enough back-and-forth that fans have even taken to wonder if Dimoldenberg was part of the reason Garfield and his ex broke up.
The pair later played a game of “Snog, Marry, or Avoid,” which took the flirting to another level as Dimoldenberg gave Garfield his choices: Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, or herself. “This is really unfair; you’re turning the screws loose on me. God, that’s hard, I don’t want to avoid any of you really,” Garfield replied. Ultimately, however, he chose to avoid Dimoldenberg.

In response to her shock, Garfield replies. “This is called flirting Amelia.” And then adds, “This is actually a first date.”
Later in the episode Garfield obliquely mentions the pair’s previous encounters, like their viral 2023 Golden Globes run-in, asking Dimoldenberg if she believes that they would have crossed paths and dated in the real world.
“I actually believe, maybe, we could’ve,” he tells Amelia, “without all of this.”

It’s too early to tell, but the answer seems to be somewhere in the realm of no and maybe. It’s important to remember that Garfield just came out of a long-term relationship with Dr. Kate Thomas, and though the timing of the breakup and this Chicken Shop Date episode’s recording might seem suspect to some fans, there’s no confirmation the two are related at all. Plus, since Garfield just ended a relationship, he might not be looking to date right away.
Garfield also mentions in the episode that he’s a very private person, in an exchange that sees Dimoldenberg claim she’s even more private than he is, and asks him when he’s seen her with anyone. Not really a hint that they’re dating or could date in the future, but enough of a tease for fans to believe, that even if they did, they wouldn’t necessarily go public with it right away.

Their chemistry was bound to get fan attention, and fans were quick to jump on the ‘they should date’ bandwagon, with comments ranging from “now KISS” to “my head: they’re performers. my heart: they’re soulmates,” without forgetting this really important fact,” He didn’t eat a single thing the entire date…he was so locked in on her”
Fans also pointed out the whole thing actually felt like a date, saying in the comments to the video, “So we definitely just watched them on a real date trying to act like it’s a fake date,” and “ITS CALLED FLIRTING, AMELIA” I’ve waited my whole life for this. Also, that was not a high five. THAT WAS HAND HOLDING AND NEITHER WANTED TO LET GO.”
Some fans are even convinced the chemistry was part of the reason Garfield broke up with his ex, Dr. Kate Thomas, with comments like “something about the news that Andrew Garfield broke up with his girlfriend coming out the day after his chicken shop date is announced. something about that.” And if we add to that the fact that Amelia Dimoldenberg recently teased while on The Drew Barrymore Show that she’d recently kissed someone, saying: “I’m feeling really good about being single at the moment, but that’s because I kissed someone recently,” she said, then it’s no wonder the two have people dissecting every second of their Chicken Shop Date.
One thing is for sure, fans seem really into the idea of Andrew Garfield and Amelia Dimoldenberg. Whether the two are as committed to a possible relationship as they are to the bit still remains to be seen.
