As you know Sephora entered a deal with Kohl’s to bring us Sephora at Kohl’s. Stores were completely revamped to create an entire Sephora experience within Kohl’s and even had their own entrances at theses locations.
I always thought JCPenny and Kohl’s was an odd fit for Sephora. Ulta was over there doing the most to woe Target and insert themselves into hundreds of Target locations and it felt like a marriage most perfect. But Sephora deciding hey, how about we go and partner up with Kohl’s felt like a marriage most unusual. I just associate Sephora with a certain luxury where as JCPenny and Kohl’s are a more affordable department store option. It didn’t seem a good fit.
Now things are even more tricky because Kohl’s is about to close 27 locations!
Kohl’s is closing 27 stores across more than a dozen states as the struggling retailer looks to improve profits. Is your Kohl’s closing? See a list of the stores closing below. The closings will be complete as soon as April. It’s actually a small amount of closings considering Kohl’s has 1,150 stores. I have to say all the Kohl’s stores I’ve ever been in are like tombs. I never see anyone in them even around the busy Holiday season. They just never seen to have taken off in my area. So, it does surprise me that it isn’t more than 27 stores! According to reports their sales have dropped over 40% in the last few months.
I don’t know if all the locations closing have Sephora’s inside them but I’m really interested to go do some research to see if they are and what this might mean for some cool deals and clearance on beauty. It just seems Sephora didn’t really think about all this before heading into a deal with Kohl’s.
