MCoBeauty No. 2 Fragrance Mist Review and Thoughts On If It’s a Dupe

As you may know MCoBeauty has taken the beauty world by storm by introducing a variety of products that appear to be duplications of some of the most popular and viral beauty items on the market current. Glossier Cloud Paints, Tarte Shape Tape Concealer, Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter Foundation, and many, many other items are available from MCoBeauty at a fraction of the cost of the original.

And of course MCoBeauty has its own range of Sol de Janeiro Fragrance and Hair Mist dupes including the most popular scent, Cheirosa ’62 which thay call No. 2 Fragrance Mist. I’ve already reviewed MCo Beauty No. 4 Fragrance Mist and was quite impressed with it. But unlike MCoBeauty No. 2 Fragrance Mist, No.4 didn’t have a matching Body Cream (no worries, Sol de Janeiro got our backs and launched one recently!). So, yes, there is in fact an MCoBeauty Smoothing Body Cream and Fragrance Mist that smells quite like Cheirosa ’62 and both are under $20! What’s not to like about that?

MCo Beauty No 2. is available in both a Fragrance Mist that can be used on hair and body which is 3.04 oz for $15.97 and a matching MCoBeauty Smoothing Body Cream is also available in a 8.11 oz jar for $19.99. Both fragrances have notes of Pistachio, Sandalwood, Caramel, and Vanilla.

This is a very similar but not exact duplication of Cheirosa ’62. I think Cheirosa ’62 is richer, warmer, and more gourmand. That probably sounds silly but I just think the MCoBeauty version doesn’t give the same amount of depth. It feels like there some small detail missing from No. 2 that doesn’t tip it over into the exact duplication realm. I can’t tell you what’s missing exactly but if you smell the two side by side I think you’d feel the same way as I do. Cheirosa ’62 just smells a bit better and more tropical cake melting in your hand and that’s missing a bit from No. 2. It’s not a bad thing by any means at all! The two smell very, very much the same and you’ll probably rake in a ton of comments if you wear No. 2 or even have people telling you, “Oh I love Cheirosa ’62!” not even realizing you’re wearing No. 2. But if you spend enough time with it you’ll definitely feel something isn’t quite the same. That being said, I like both of them and I do think MCoBeauty No. 2 Fragrance Mist is a great little option if you are on a budget. It’s 3.04 oz and $16 where as Sol de Janeiro’s version is $25 so, you’re saving yourself a little bit of cash buying this version. Plus MCoBeauty has sales OFTEN and you can snag this for far less during those sales. I mentioned in my review of No. 4 as being stronger than the original but No. 2 is actually weaker. This one doesn’t last very long (neither does Sol de Janeiro for that matter!) and it does seem to get eaten up on my skin pretty quickly.

And let’s talk packaging for a sec too…! It’s very much Sol de Janeiro-like! It has the same clear bottle, same sunset colored juice, same white cap with the embossed MCoBeauty logo. It’s a bit lighter compared to the Sol de Janeiro bottle which is made from a heavier plastic but overall, it’s a nice presentation.

As for the MCoBeauty Smoothing Body Cream I love it but again, we run into an issue with the wear and linger on this one! I think Sol de Janeiro’s Bum Bum Cream is probably even more fragranced than the mist and it lingers on your skin all day not to mention it really allows the fragrance mist to last. Layering the two results in great long, strong wear. That’s not the case with No. 2. No 2. Fragrance Mist is a bit weak already and the cream doesn’t really allow it to last any longer. Worn along the cream’s scent seems to disappear quite quickly. I do like this texture better though than Sol de Janeiro. It almost has a gel-like consistency and it’s not as thick as Bum Bum Cream which allows it to absorb way faster. It leaves my skin very smooth and hydrated and not sticky nor greasy. Below I’ve compared the ingredients of the two formulas.

MCoBeauty No 2. Smoothing Body Cream Ingredients:
Water (Aqua), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerin, Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate, Phenyl Trimethicone, Ceteryl Alcohol, Polglyceryl-3 Distearate, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Fragrance (Parfum), Tromethamine, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Acid, Xantham Gum, Sodium Phytate, Squalane, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Extract, Dextrin, Yellow 5 (CI 19140), 1,2-Hexadiol, Yellow 6 (CI 15985), Tocopherol, Sodium Hyaluronate.

Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream Ingredients:
Aqua (Water, Eau), Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate, Phenyl Trimethicone, Dodecane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Parfum (Fragrance), Cetearyl Alcohol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Euterpe Oleracea Fruit (Açaí) Oil, Theobroma Grandiflorum (Cupuaçu) Seed Butter, Bertholletia Excelsa (Brazil Nut) Seed Oil, Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Seed Oil, Paullinia Cupana (Guaraná) Seed Extract, Ilex Guayusa Leaf Extract, Ilex Paraguariensis Leaf Extract, Bixa Orellana Seed Extract, Tocopherol, Squalane, Sorbitan Isostearate, Sodium Phytate, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Glyceryl Caprylate, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Ethylhexylglycerin, Glycerin, Xanthan Gum, Cetyl Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, Mica, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Salicylate, Citral, Coumarin, Hydroxycitronellal, Limonene.

As you can see Sol de Janeiro does put a lot more into their formula with more moisturizing oils and butters versus the MCo formula. As for price, that’s where things are quite nicer with MCo Beauty. An 8.1 oz Bum Bum Cream is $48 and an 8.1 oz of MCo Smoothing Body Cream is $19.99. That’s a considerable savings if you don’t mind the downgraded formula. As for packaging, this comes in a lighter plastic jar than Bum Bum Cream but it’s still presented in the similar shape and style jar.

MCoBeauty No. 2 Fragrance Mist and Smoothing Body Cream is worth picking up if you want to save a few dollars and love Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa ’62. The scents aren’t exactly alike but they are very, very close and MCo Beauty’s prices can’t be beat.
